Home offices have recently increased in popularity as more people choose to work from home.  However, we believe that having your own office at home should involve more than just a desk with a computer.  Not only can it provide a relaxed environment for work, but with key design elements, may also serve as a source of inspiration and quiet refuge.  Many also use their home office area as a study, or a quiet place to unwind and read away from the distractions of the rest of the home.

The Reading Eagle has an informative article on desks for the home and includes this photo of a Global Views desk.

This substantial desk from Global Views is made from exotic zebra wood veneer in a dark walnut stain, finished with lacquer and a hand-rubbed wax. An oversized pencil drawer is deftly disguised. The open-block desk is 60 inches long, 29 1/4 inches deep, and 31 1/2 inches tall.

More and more homes have a home office. Working from home or bringing work home has made some sort of office space a necessity in recent years. Between 2011 and 2015, there will be nearly 2 million home-based businesses and more than 3 million corporate home office households, according to the International Data Corp. In addition more and more women are carving out a space for just their activities much like men with their "Man Caves."

Are You Reading From Your Home Office?

Thanks to Fish Consulting, I leaned two new things this morning(and it's not even noon).

First, "Cisco Systems Inc. earlier this month predicted that global Internet traffic will more than quadruple by 2014 in its annual Visual Networking Index Forecast." Really, quadruple? I can't spend any more hours on the computer, but apparently many of you can.

Second, "...the work-at-home trend continues to gain in popularity thanks to high-speed internet connections and technology’s ability to connect workers from coast to coast, as well as a tough economy that is making companies realize the benefits of employees working from home." (Never mind that many of the semi-employed or unemployed are starting home businesses.) "More than 4.2 million Americans are turning their homes into virtual offices. These professionals spend in excess of a third of the day in their home office environments, which is why their office should be a comfortable, highly functional workspace."
