Sofa Table Update

I'm sure you've seen this style sofa table at tag sales and just walk right past them. Well, we saw the potential in this beauty and decided to give it a new life with just a little paint and distressing.

For the table top I left the natural color since the wood was in great condition- the contrast is a nice touch.

For the brass hardware I sanded, painted, and added a clear coat.

Now this updated sofa table is at our store waiting for a new home.

Mantel Makeover

My love for architectural pieces run deep. I've always been drawn to chippy old doors, windows, shutters, columns, moldings, mantels, corbels, and so on. . . but ever since we took a buying trip to New Orleans a few years ago; I've just completely been drawn to more architectural salvage and historic pastimes of older houses and buildings.

As a matter of fact, one of my favorite TV shows is The Bronson Pinchot Project on DIY Network where Pinchot and a crew of contractors renovate his house in Harford, PA using only salvaged architectural pieces to transform gorgeous spaces to live in. If you haven't seen this show you should definitely check it out!

We found this mantel last week and thought it would be a perfect candidate for a makeover. Come to find out it's a lot older than we thought, which is always a plus in our business! Right away I began layering the paint on and didn't really have a plan as to what I wanted it to look like, except making it look aged. I ended up using five different layers of paint to achieve this look.

The details on the mantel seem quiet subtle in the before photo, but now they really seem to stand out since I layered on the painted and heavily distressed it. I could easily see this being repurposed into a headboard or a bookshelf.

China Cabinet Makeover

We found this french provincial china cabinet several weeks ago at an estate sale. It had such great curves that we just could not pass it up. After cleaning it up a bit and several coats of paint later- it finally looks like a totally new piece of furniture.

We instantly updated it by painting and covering the gold paper inside. We also scraped the gold decals off of the glass panes for a more clean-lined look. This dated china cabinet has come a long way since we first bought it, now it's just waiting for a new home.

Just look at all of the beautiful details! This china cabinet is oh so charming!

If I owned this cabinet, I would use it for a book shelf and to display a small collection of vintage finds.

Turquoise Desk Makeover

Today I'm sharing with you a bright turquoise roll top desk that we revamped for the store.

Here's how the desk looked when we found it. As you can see it was pretty much just brown and blah...

After we painted and distressed this piece all of the details really came forward. I'm so pleased how this desk turned out!

I think this roll top desk would be perfect in a kid's bedroom or small space since it has four drawers for plenty of storage and also for the fact that the top can close and hide any messes or paperwork.

Top 12 Projects of 2012

Whew. Where has the year gone!? It's been a great year with many changes since we sold our house this summer, moved out, and are now building our new house that will be completed in the spring. Not to mention that we've been super busy around the store, it constantly keeps us on our toes. There always seems to be either some sort of DIY project going on or a room full of furniture being painted. It's a lot of hard work, but also so rewarding at the same time. I love what I'm doing because not only is it my dream job, but I enjoy working with my husband everyday along with meeting new people and seeing our regular customers that are so sweet and supportive. I'm looking forward to celebrating the store's two year anniversary on January 4th!

I haven't been able to blog as much this year, as I did last year, but I really appreciate your support and I cannot wait to see what the new year brings! Here are just a few of the projects that I completed this year.

Happy New Year!!

Cabinet Makeover

Here's what the cabinet looked like before I painted and repaired it. It was plain white with green trim and flower decals. Ugh.

Now it's painted a masculine dark blue-gray with a little distressing, which I'm currently loving. Originally this was a liquor cabinet/bar, but I think it would make a great TV console to hide electronic components in a small space.

Distressed Blue Chest

The last few weeks have been extremely busy. We went to Nashville for our five year wedding anniversary and then I went with my mom to visit my sister in Atlanta last weekend. I've been getting back into the swing of things at the store this week. I wanted to share with you a few new pieces of furniture I completed this week. This five drawer blue chest went from ugly to lovely with just a little paint and some distressing. Now it's ready for a new home!

Here's another piece I've been working on. This pale yellow cabinet with woven baskets would be perfect for extra storage in a bathroom. I just love the way it turned out!

Thanks for stopping by. Have a great weekend!
