A 21st Century Farnsworth House

What does a 21st Century version of Mies van der Rhoe’s exalted Farnsworth House look like? Thanks to Manhattan architectural firm Desai/Chia, we now know. The blissfully beautiful LM Guest House in upstate New York was built for a family requesting “an analog” of Farnsworth, and lucky for them (and us voyeurs), they got it in spades.

A modest 2,000 sq feet in size, LM, like Farnsworth, retains a low, horizontal profile with an all-glass exterior. But unlike Farnsworth, state-of-the-art green technology—geothermal heating and cooling; radiant floors; motorized solar shading; photovoltaic panels; rainwater harvesting; and sensitivity to the lay of the land—was thoughtfully employed to reduce the carbon footprint of an all-glass house.

“The LM Guest House celebrates the beauty of the surrounding landscape,” says Desai/Chia. Agreed—but we think it more potently celebrates the enduring, timeless beauty of Farnsworth House.

Headliner

At 83, Milton Glaser still knows how to stay design-relevant. The only graphic designer to have ever been awarded a National Medal of Arts (in 2009), he was also making news at ICFF 2013 recently. The Barcelona carpet brand Nanimarquina launched a collection of 3 wool carpets designed by Glaser, each bearing earth-toned, cross-hatch graphic patterns with tribal overtones. The star of the rug trio was Shakespeare in Africa, featuring the head of The Bard himself. Of his desire to reference a literary icon on a carpet, said Glaser, “I wanted to take two things that have no relationship with each other and do what art does: to unify the apparently unrelated.” Mission accomplished, we say.

It seems not so long ago the concept of Avant-Garde was in its infancy, we had no website to speak of and we simply had Ebay listings and a pro store on Amazon. Within a month our so called Avant-Garde Ebay store was selling so many items that we felyt we were getting ripped off in fees that we paid ebay for basically doing nothing. They are outrageous. They control everything. What you can sell, what you can say, and how you can grow. They are in my opinion one of the worse companies in terms of control. Its like they are Big Brother in George Orvile's famous novel that had a totalitarian US government in the far off future. 

We decided to go on our own and break free of ebay and create our own website called Avant Garde Home Furnishings.com, Everything for your mnodern & contemporary home.. Fast forward a few months of tweas, changes, graphic designs by Edward Saunders, our creative partner, the addition of several key people to help out and now finally the renting of our very own offices and possibly show room space and you get the more mature, more established Avant-Garde we have today. Today's Avant Garde is listed in search results, google products search, has anylytics accoun ts, branded logos, business cards. hours of operation, and is listed in Bing Local, Yahoo, Yellow Pages, Yelp Listing, US Directory listing, Manta, Biznik, Linkedin, has a dedicate Facebook page with over 400 followers, Twitter page with over 1,500 followers, You Tube Page, My Space Page, and 4 active blogs that are published every day. We now have 6 employees, health care, and office space and it seems unreal that something that started off as a simply idea has grown so much and has done so much in really less then a year. They represent the perfect combination of simple modern, contemporary interior designs, perfect blend of outside architecture, and of course, the perfect practicality as we would not want ultra luxury modern, contemporary interior designs in a beach house used for leisure and relaxation...

Here are the contemporary beach house design with simple rectilinear roof inspiration. This design on a 569m2 corner lot in the city of Praia is designed to make the most of limited view of the sea and adhere to the principles of passive solar design strong. The building replaced an older style beach house has been carefully designed to meet the block Strait adhere to the policies of the municipality at the time and shadow. The building is an articulate form rectilinear rectilinear under a simple roof. A wall of travertine clad crosses strong blade of the house and helps divide the house into separate zones. The north façade is controlled to achieve summer shading of windows. The pool has positioned itself firmly against the house on a double volume “balcony” and can be clearly seen as it moves through the house. The light is reflected from the surface of the pool sending shadows on the ceiling of the room.

My favorite features of this house are the large open rooms upstairs it just feels like a beach house.. I can feel it just by looking at the pics..

Here are the stunning modern Marcus beach house design on the sunshine coast of queensland Australia design by by Robinson Architects. The side windows that fold upwards are very interesting plan. All rooms have cross ventilation. Windows Automated allow easy control. Runoff water is collected and natural day lighting is used to minimize the amount of artificial light required. Several openings covered with flexible scales used to capture or control of existing coastal breezes. The internal bridge offers a quiet alternative to the wind outside.
