Today's summer tunes and art post is sort of a combination of both. This video from Boards of Canada from their album, 'Tomorrow's Harvest' is a bit of an art piece I'd say and it's not hard to kind of get pulled in and swept away in it; especially near the end where it feels as though you're flying. Summer Tunes + Art | Austra + Lisa Golightly

Jumping in here a little late today with our weekly summer tunes and art post. But as they say, better late than never! Today we've got a pretty electro pop song by Toronto's Austra, from their new sophomore album titled Olympia - Austra. My first thought was Kate Bush when I first heard this, and apparantly they have also been compared to Bjork. Whatever the case, it's a pretty snappy tune and has found it's place here for our summer tunes set. I've paired it with a piece by Lisa Golightly (Kiki and Polly), called You First; a summery theme for a summery song. Summer Tunes + Art | Lower Dens + Matte Stephens

For this week's summer tunes series we have a fun pair (art and music) to share with you that I hope you'll like!  First off, I'm loving this song Lower Dens - Non Grata by Baltimore's Lower Dens; the song is part of a split single with fellow Baltimoreans Horse Lords and where digital proceeds will go towards the Ariel Panero Memorial Fund at VH1′s Save the Music. Click on the player below to listen. Go to Bandcamp to download.  This song was included in this month's FWBA mixtape club (which I recently signed up for). Nada Alic (of Etsy Canada) whom I met this spring here in Vancouver was telling me about her music blog called, Friends With Both Arms and that she offers a monthly mixtape club. So I signed up! For the art, I thought that Matte Stephens' Brooklyn Apartment Building (limited edition) print was a nice match for this track. Art + Summer Tunes

This weekend's combo features Canada's Gold & Youth, a band out of Toronto and Vancouver who's sound is a little bit Depeche Mode, a little Roxy Music; a nice sort of look out onto the horizon from your balcony after the day at the beach summer kind of tune. Their debut LP 'Beyond Wilderness' is out on label Arts & Crafts and we have a free download from that album called Time to Kill (just enter your email below). We've paired this textured synth tune with a nice piece of fine art photography from Lucy Snowe she named Two Palms at Sunset. Feeling summery yet?

Art + Summer Tunes Time

We're looking forward to some new summer tunes here and just like the past couple of years, we'll be bringing back our summer tunes posts for July and August, but I'm starting a bit early to celebrate the first few days of summer and found a pretty nice edit of Daft Punk's Random Access Memories' summery song, Get Lucky by the Netherlands duo Redondo.  And of course we have paired it with some lovely art by Madison, Wisconson's Amanda Blake.
