Fill your house with art (and gorgeous vintage furniture!)

My recent purchased sideboard and favourite artwork in our house
One of the great things about my job is that I get to meet so many different people in very different houses. This week I picked up a wonderful 1960s McIntosh sideboard and another British-made mid-century desk from a lovely couple in Aberdeen - with a wonderfully eclectic interior. As soon as I arrived I was taken back by the vast amount of original artworks that filled their home. These people clearly were true collectors with great style and taste! Visiting their house also made me re-think my own wall space and where to place artworks. I have always had this idea that a room can only handle one very large piece and a few other smaller pictures on other walls, but the walls in the house of this couple were filled - wall-to-wall - with paintings and it actually looked good. "Just fill it!" the lady said when I told her my dilemma of having too many artworks and not enough walls. I think I'm going to take a leaf out of her book. After all, being surrounded by art can only be a good thing for mind and spirit.

I have made a collection on Pinterest of beautiful rooms filled with art and pictures, combined with iconic Danish furniture, to share this idea with you. What do you think, a winner?

Summer Tunes + Art | Austra + Lisa Golightly

Jumping in here a little late today with our weekly summer tunes and art post. But as they say, better late than never! Today we've got a pretty electro pop song by Toronto's Austra, from their new sophomore album titled Olympia - Austra. My first thought was Kate Bush when I first heard this, and apparantly they have also been compared to Bjork. Whatever the case, it's a pretty snappy tune and has found it's place here for our summer tunes set. I've paired it with a piece by Lisa Golightly (Kiki and Polly), called You First; a summery theme for a summery song. Click here for more info on Austra and here for more info on Lisa Golightly's art.  Happy Friday everyone!

The Curious Gardener

Trish & Co. is a new line of Canadian housewares designed by Trish Papadakos based in Toronto.  Her first collection of homewares, The Curious Gardener was inspired by Trish's great grandmother-in-law, Dorothy Decima Millman. She won the 1920 women's golf championship of Ontario, loved playing bridge, was a great swimmer (spending winters in Bermuda), and held varied positions, including bookkeeper and bank clerk.  The line features beautiful embroidered texiles (pillow cases + napikins), gardening stakes, wooden cutting boards.  A beautiful collection. Inspiration: Pendant Lighting

Patric Johansson
Last night as I sat down for dinner and looked up at our lonely dangling lightbulb (waiting patiently for a fix) and realized it was time to make a decision once and for all.

Must-Have Lighting from West Elm

West Elm has hit it out of the ballpark with this gorgeous copper pendant light cord set. Not only is copper the “must have” metal right now, this cord light is so adaptable and totally affordable.  Cluster four or five together around a found branch and hang from the ceiling for a simple DIY chandelier or or customize with different bulbs. This is definitely on my must-have list. (Also comes in white). For more info click here.

Bloomingville's Spring Summer 2013

I'm loving all these photo's from Bloomingville's Spring Summer 2013 catalogue that I just came a cross this week.  Beautiful vignettes of this Danish-based home decor line featuring furniture, home accessories and outdoor patio items.  I'm hesitant to post about patio decor just yet, but it's definitely worth taking a look at.  Lots of relaxed Scandinavian-inspired pieces.  I see they have a Toronto store - which really has me thinking how I could get some of these to Vancouver. Take a look at a few highlights below ; you can view their catalogue online here.

Sneak Peek from Real Living

project & styling lynda evans | photography tony scott for realliving

A few images I bookmarked from Real Living's November issue that I thought you might like. I loved their storage solution/projects using wooden crates like the one above –a cute idea for a bedside endtable. They painted the inside and wallpapered the outside. And then below a round-up of fresh fluoro-inspired dining and living room ideas mixed with some simple neutrals to set things off. And the very bottom picture - a room gets a handcrafted look by using plywood panels and pendant lighting. (I purchased my realliving issue through their magshop app available on iTunes here).

This week's inspiration: comfy sofas, lush beds and wall displays

http://pinterest.com/pin/259027416039140935/
I don't know about you, but I have started to get the woolly socks and winter blankets out of the cupboard. We had a great warm and sunny few days up here in Aberdeenshire last weekend, but I think that really was the last bit of summer. Flipflops can be put away (as if we ever wear them here in Scotland! ;-), winter boots can come out.

On Pinterest I have been pinning some nice photos of colourful interiors lately and since we'll be spending more time indoors now summer is over, I am sharing some ideas on how to bring warmth and happiness in your home with colourful lounges and bedrooms and great wall displays. I hope you like them.
