Sunday Reading | Chatelaine Summer Living

I picked up a copy of Chatelaine Magazine's Summer Living (special edition) this weekend and it's got me in the mood for a little summertime decorating.  Like most special editions, there's a few images you'll recognize from issues past, but they've done a pretty good job of keeping it fresh and interesting, offering up designer tips, weekend project ideas and room makeovers.  I snipped a few sneak peeks to inspire a little sunday reading for yourself. Check them out below.

Loving the patio lanterns hanging on a string in this photo (above). I picked up something similar at Home Depot recently (we're using it for our Chinatown Night Market at the moment) but I think they will be around for summers to come.

Mix and match. Pretty summery fabrics in a variety of colours complement each other really well in this vingette.

Love these custom-made oilcloth slipcovers made to give some indoor chairs a second life as patio seating.

Toss cushions are a fun idea for the deck, don't you think? Love them around that extra big tree stump.

This special issue features decorating advice from Chatelaine’s design panel: Emma Reddington, Samantha Pynn, Andrea Mills, Kimberley Seldon, Michael Penny,Virginie Martocq and Julia Black! I checked online if there was a digital issue (but not that I can tell), but here is a link to their subscriptions online. Yay summer!

Mister Moss + Happy Friday!

So I keep running into string gardens this week –and these gorgeous ones can't go without mentioning. Spotted in the latest issue of Inside Out Magazine, Mister Moss (out of Australia) makes some pretty colorful ones that he actually sells online.  I love the bright fluro strings and the Yucca above (with the painted stem) –a perfect patio/balcony plant idea.  See a few more pics below –the cherry blossoms on the balcony would be perfect right now and check out that stunning display for a wedding.  More at mister-moss.com.

Check out this post from earlier this week with a link on how to make them!

Happy Friday!

Hopes of Spring

I know we probably have a few months of spring rain to get through here in the Pacific Northwest, but I can't help but take a peek at what is new in the garden world –especially after experiencing what was such a spring-like weekend. February always does that to us here –we get that hint of spring, the crocus and daffodils are show their heads, and hopes of summer draw us in. So how fitting then to come across these beautiful Amphoral pots made in Vietnam over at Flora Grubb Gardens this past weekend. The beautiful patina-like glaze is part of a four-part process which makes them look hundreds of years old.  Don't they go amazingly with the subdued succulent colours?  More info here.

Sneak Peek: Ikea Outdoor

IKEA released a peek this week of their spring/summer outdoor series. Featured –white painted bistro sets, beachy red/white or blue/white striped umbrellas and lounges, black and white wooden combos and a fun set of solar-powered table and ground lamps to start. All of which now have me rather anxious for summer to arrive!  These and a few more should start showing up in stores sometime in March. A few faves:

Bloomingville's Spring Summer 2013

I'm loving all these photo's from Bloomingville's Spring Summer 2013 catalogue that I just came a cross this week.  Beautiful vignettes of this Danish-based home decor line featuring furniture, home accessories and outdoor patio items.  I'm hesitant to post about patio decor just yet, but it's definitely worth taking a look at.  Lots of relaxed Scandinavian-inspired pieces.  I see they have a Toronto store - which really has me thinking how I could get some of these to Vancouver. Take a look at a few highlights below ; you can view their catalogue online here.
