Yay! The weekend is finally here and I'm really looking forward to the Etsy Pop-Up Shop at west elm on Saturday! I can't wait to see all the vendors displays we curated and to finally taste some of those specially made cupcakes and treats from Butter Baked Goods.

The Etsy Pop-Up Shop is this Saturday, May 25/13 from 1pm – 6pm at west elm and west elm market (right next door) in Vancouver. The address is 2947 Granville Street, Vancouver, British Columbia. Love the Sea + Mountains | West Elm + Etsy Pop-Up Shop

I'm getting really excited for the upcoming Etsy + West Elm Pop-Up Shop happening next Saturday, May 25th. I dropped by for a preview Wednesday nite and the store is looking so summery and pretty (think sunsets and lots of flowers)! I wanted to take everything home with me. We wanted to give you all a sneak peek of the Etsy shops we curated for the event. West Elm is so supportive of local makers across all of their stores in the U.S., here in Canada and now in Australia and so I'm honoured to have been asked to curate a unique collection for this special day. Fun too, how things come together and you find common denominators. As I was looking through all the Etsy shops participating, I found a connection running through many of them; the sea and the mountains. How fitting for the west coast, and both such great themes for summer. Let's take a look!

I'm so excited about this fun little event happening in May! And I'd love if you'd join me for a fun afternoon of art, crafts and other goods from local Etsy designers at west elm and Etsy's first Vancouver Etsy Pop Up Shop, Saturday, May 25th!

Hey Canada! Announcing –Make Your Living by Etsy

We're excited to help Etsy announce their new Make Your Living video series launching today –profiling Canadian artists who make their living using Etsy. Their aim is to encourage artists to take the leap by featuring artists who've used Etsy to start their small businesses. This is a call to action for artists across Canada to do what they love, on their own terms. I love that!

To kick off the series the new Etsy Canada team began in their own backyard, in Kensington Market to the studio of Victory Patterns, where Kristiann Boos invited them into her pattern making digs, where she designs vintage-inspired wears for the everywoman. They then travelled north to Caledon, Ontario to the studio of husband and wife duo, Patrick and Mara who run Studioliscious, creating one of a kind, modern furniture and paintings.

There are over 800 000 small businesses on Etsy, in over 150 countries with over 25 million members. Well, not quite yet...but soon!

Sometimes things change quickly. Less than a year ago I set up my own business and started promoting my ventures online. In January I set up an Etsy account, in May I started selling at Yeadon's bookshop in Elgin and I've done a number of craft/vintage fairs since last Christmas.

(Oh yeah, I also had a baby)

It is August now and I have just got the keys to my very own studio & shop space. Eeek! What's going on?! Am I scared? Yes, I am!

It is out in the sticks and not on a busy high street, so I am going to have to shout loudly to draw attention! Nevertheless, it is hugely exciting and I will be part of a lovely old building housing other creative people who make furniture - and even complete handmade kitchens (the woodworking workshops there would make any joiner drool!). Oh yes, and it has lots of parking space (try to find that in a city!).

It will be my own little work space where I can let my creative juices flow, paint, sew, design, make and also show off and sell my furniture, vintage, unique and handmade homeware and other nice things. I hope to make it a fun, inspiring and welcoming place to be, where people can come and spend some time, find inspiration, join me in creating things - or just catch up over a cup of coffee.

But first things first: redecorating! An opening party will follow. Promise.

I am so excited to share this news with you all... Not just a little bit... but UBER excited! I will be partnering up very soon with one of the best booksellers in the UK; Yeadons Booksellers in Elgin, north Scotland. This shop, one of the oldest continuously trading bookshops in Scotland - already established in 1887 - will be the perfect environment for my eclectic mix of vintage, handmade and upcycled homeware. It is a beautiful 1930s building, tastefully decorated with custom made shelving and vintage furniture and stocked with a carefully chosen, eclectic selection of books.

Recently Yeadons started selling vintage homeware alongside their books, which went down a treat with the customers, complimenting the great mix of books and stationary and the friendly shopping atmosphere. From next month Nina's Apartment will be 'moving in' with them adding to the selection of wares with vintage treasures, handmade cushions and revamped furniture. I can't wait!

So we are having some freakish weather up here in Scotland. Barbecues and sun hats one day, 10cm of snow the next. What's going on?! Anyway, nothing we can do about it but go with the flow (or snow for that matter). I had to get an extra blanket out the cupboard the past few days to keep warm and got the idea to actually go and stock up on beautiful hand crocheted 'granny' blankets for my etsy shop too.
Really beautiful ones (in up to date rather colours than seventies ones) are hard to come by though. Maybe I should find a local granny to make me some. Or learn to crochet myself...!

I have been doing some treasure hunting for my little Etsy business lately and have gathered a wonderful collection of coffeepots and teapots on the way. Some didn't even make it to the shop and got snapped up by friends already! Here's the beauties that are now available and ready to go to a good home. They're all in superb condition, clean and sound. If you buy any of them I'll of course make sure they are securely packaged so they'll arrive safely at your door, wherever in the world you live. Where East meets West...vintage kimonos and upcycled jeans

Today I had the luxury of a whole afternoon to myself, as hubby took baby out shopping, leaving the house in peace and quiet. Bliss! I took the opportunity to get the sewing machine out and decided to start a new series of patchwork pillows, as I needed to produce some more for my online shop. I have now created some with unusual fabric combinations; how about vintage kimono fabric and an old pair of jeans? Or denim, retro fabric and velvet? I even managed to include the back pocket of the jeans, making it a handy pillow to store your remote control ;-)
